This is only a pilot survey that I have conducted using descriptive statistics. If actual survey I
would use inferential statistics. Thank you for all the respondents.
A random survey showed that 50% of the Chinese
respondents sent their children to SJKC because of their awareness of the
importance of studying their own mother tongue and not because of pressure from
any group such as the mass media or NGO. 78% of the respondents said that they
were proud of their own culture, mother tongue, and traditional medicine. 44% of
the respondents agreed that there was pressure from certain groups that
stressed the importance of the Chinese language and encouraged the students
to take up Mandarin as a subject in public examinations. 39% agreed that there
was pressure from Chinese organizations that stressed on the importance of language, literature, and Chinese education. A
total of 56% said that they were not proud of the old Chinese government in
building temples and schools in ancient China. 50% of them agreed that their
vernacular newspapers did not praise or give recognition to the cultural or
social services that they have provided in this country.
